PT Taspen (Persero) kicked off the 2026 Pension Fund Month on Sunday (6/9). The initiative aims to raise participants’ awareness of the importance of financial planning and early retirement preparation.

Minister of Manpower Prof. Yassierli expressed his support for the initiative, particularly given the large workforce of 155 million people, including civil servants (ASN). Of that number, 60% of the workforce are formal workers, which poses a challenge for the government in raising awareness about pension fund preparation.

“The spirit we hear today is that youth should be productive, youth should create, and then in old age one should be happy and protected. So from the Ministry of Manpower, once again this is in line with our efforts to continue improving protection for our workforce,” Yassierli added at the 2026 Pension Fund Month Kick Off in Jakarta on Sunday (6/9/2026).

On the same occasion, Minister of State Apparatus Empowerment and Bureaucratic Reform (PANRB) Rini Widyantini welcomed the initiative, saying the movement builds collective awareness about retirement.

“I am interested in today’s theme: productive in youth, happy in old age. The phrase is simple, but it carries a very important message about living a healthy old age,” Rini explained.

She said pension funds need to be prepared while still productively working, not when about to stop working. “The knowledge we have accumulated over decades of working can certainly be utilised now for family and society. Therefore, this readiness needs to be prepared before we retire,” she said.

Meanwhile, Chair of the Board of Commissioners of the Financial Services Authority (OJK) Friderica Widyasari Dewi said the 2026 Pension Fund Month is an initiative organised by the OJK’s Insurance, Guarantee, and Pension Fund Supervisory division to promote pension funds to the public.

She explained that many people still have not prepared for retirement, with pension fund participation reaching only 22%, below the level of financial literacy. “This is a shared responsibility among the OJK, regulators, the government, pension fund associations, and companies operating in the pension fund sector to provide understanding to the public that pension funds must be prepared from the very first day a person starts working. From the first day someone works, they should already be thinking about pension funds,” she said.

According to her, Pension Fund Month will be held simultaneously in several cities across Indonesia. Under the theme “Productive in Youth, Happy in Old Age”, Pension Fund Month features various educational, interactive, and inspirational activities to encourage a healthy lifestyle and achieve a more prosperous future.

“This is our collective effort and it will be carried out simultaneously in several cities in Indonesia. There are a thousand activities in this Pension Fund Month, and we certainly hope for your support,” Friderica added.

Chief Executive of Insurance, Guarantee, and Pension Fund Supervision Ogi Prastomiyono added that the 2026 Pension Fund Month will be held in three cities: Jakarta, Semarang, and Bandung. He explained that pension fund programmes can be offered by companies through employer pension funds (DPPK), financial institution pension funds (DPLK), and those organised by BPJS Ketenagakerjaan, Taspen, and Asabri.

“Today’s collaboration shows that all parties want to encourage Indonesia’s pension funds to grow larger and cover the entire population, both formal workers and independent workers, and all of society. We hope that Indonesia’s pension funds will improve in the future and that the public will be better protected during retirement,” Ogi added.

TASPEN Operations Director Tribuna Phitera Djaja explained that for the first time, Pension Fund Month is presented as a collaborative movement to improve pension fund literacy, inclusion, and participation. The initiative invites the public to prepare for retirement early through various educational and inspirational activities.

“In line with this, Taspen, as a social insurance company for civil servants, is committed to continuously raising awareness and encouraging retirement readiness, particularly for civil servants, towards a prosperous retirement,” he said.
