Pidie Jaya, VIVA – The Minister of Home Affairs (Mendagri), who also serves as the Chair of the Task Force for the Acceleration of Rehabilitation and Reconstruction (PRR) post-disaster in Sumatra, Muhammad Tito Karnavian, inspected the site of the temporary housing (huntara) in Pidie Jaya Regency, Aceh, on Friday (6 March 2026). During the visit, Tito, together with the Minister of Social Affairs (Mensos) Saifullah Yusuf and Aceh Deputy Governor (Wagub) Fadhlullah, checked a number of facilities available in the huntara and spoke with the displaced persons.

In his remarks to reporters, Tito explained that the huntara built in Pidie Jaya are divided into four types. These include huntara built by BPI Danantara, huntara initiated by the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), huntara built by the Ministry of Public Works (PU), and huntara established collectively by civil society organisations (ormas) and volunteers. Of the four types, Tito noted, there are differences in the characteristics of the facilities inside.

“For example, at BNPB-type huntara there are no beds but it has a larger kitchen and its own toilet. Then at Danantara it is almost the same as PU; there are beds, the fans are cooler and more comfortable, but the kitchen and toilet, the bathroom, are shared (communal),” Tito said, quoted on Friday, 6 March 2026.

Although there are differences in facilities, the government ensures that the refugees continue to receive decent and comfortable housing. He emphasised that the government is expediting the relocation of refugees still in tents to huntara or to more suitable dwellings through the Housing Waiting Fund (DTH) scheme before Eid al-Fitr 1447 AH.

Based on the data in his possession, of the three disaster-affected provinces in Sumatra, only West Sumatra Province has the number of refugees in tents at zero.

“Well, this is our target with BNPB yesterday; all will be in huntara and for meals, BNPB will cover for the next ten days. After that the cost will be covered by the ‘lauk pauk’ (food) / ‘jadup’ (daily meals) allowances from the Ministry of Social Affairs,” Tito said.

Also present at the visit were Pidie Jaya Regent Sibral Malasyi, Director General for Bina Administrasi Kewilayahan of the Ministry of Home Affairs Safrizal ZA, and other relevant parties. (LAN)
