The Task Force for Accelerating Rehabilitation and Reconstruction (PRR) following the Sumatra disaster continues to accelerate the rehabilitation of paddy fields damaged by floods and landslides in the provinces of Aceh, North Sumatra (Sumut), and West Sumatra (Sumbar). This step is an important part of restoring the agricultural sector while maintaining food security in the affected regions.

The acceleration efforts are carried out through a land revitalisation scheme to make it productive again. In addition, this step is also aimed at helping farmers resume activities and recover their livelihoods post-disaster.

The Head of the Sumatra Post-Disaster PRR Task Force, Muhammad Tito Karnavian, emphasised that paddy field rehabilitation does not only focus on physical land recovery but also includes strengthening the legality aspect through updating land data.

According to him, this step is important so that the productive land has legal certainty and can be optimally utilised by the community.

“Because the National Land Agency (BPN) is under the Minister of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning/National Land Agency (ATR/BPN) (Nusron Wahid), there may need to be instructions to the ranks to proactively work with local governments to resolve land issues, land boundaries, as well as help with lost certificates,” said Tito in his statement on Wednesday (15/4/2026). He said this after the Coordinating Meeting of the PRR Task Force’s Advisory Team in Jakarta on Monday (6/4).

He added that local governments are asked to actively coordinate with the local ATR/BPN Regional Office in the process of re-registering residents’ land. If obstacles are encountered, the central government will intervene to ensure all processes run quickly and accurately.

Based on data from the PRR Task Force as of 13 April, out of a total of 42,702 hectares of paddy fields targeted for rehabilitation in the three provinces, 1,301 hectares have been successfully rehabilitated, while another 8,991 hectares are still in the handling process.

In detail, in Aceh Province, there are 31,464 hectares of paddy fields targeted for rehabilitation, with 42 hectares already rehabilitated. In Sumut, out of a total of 7,336 hectares, 170 hectares have been restored. Meanwhile, in Sumbar, rehabilitation progress shows a significant achievement, with 1,089 hectares out of a total of 3,902 hectares already productive again.

This development aligns with the acceleration of mud cleaning in the affected areas. In Aceh, out of 519 locations targeted for cleaning, 480 locations have been completed and 39 locations remain in process. In Sumut, 20 out of 23 locations have been cleaned, with three locations still under work. In Sumbar, all 29 affected locations have been fully cleaned.
