The Task Force for Accelerating Rehabilitation and Reconstruction (Satgas PRR) has assured that electricity services in three disaster-affected provinces in Sumatra have been restored almost entirely. The Head of Satgas PRR, Muhammad Tito Karnavian, emphasised that electricity is one of the most crucial infrastructures in supporting life and accelerating economic recovery.

“(The restoration of) electricity can be said to be 99.90 per cent. There are isolated areas where roads have collapsed, so they cannot yet receive electricity supply, but (residents) have been provided with generators. This is important; electricity is very crucial. Thank you to the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources and PLN,” said Tito in a written statement on Monday (6 April 2026).

Based on data from the Satgas PRR Post-Disaster Sumatra as of 6 April 2026, the electricity conditions in Aceh Province and West Sumatra Province have reached 100 per cent operational. This achievement reflects the success of cross-sectoral coordination in accelerating the recovery of basic infrastructure.

Meanwhile, in North Sumatra, the restoration process is still being expedited despite several on-site challenges. As many as 54 customers in two villages, namely Siantar Naipospos Village and Pardomuan Nauli Village, are still not fully supplied with electricity due to access affected by the disaster. Nevertheless, residents’ electricity needs are still met through support from portable generators provided by PLN.

Efforts to rehabilitate the electricity network in the area continue. The construction of a 17.5-kilometre medium-voltage network and the installation of four transformers with a capacity of 50 kVA each have reached 77.82 per cent progress, or 13.62 kilometres. This work has been accelerated again following the momentum of Eid al-Fitr 2026.

On the other hand, Satgas PRR has also swiftly responded to disruptions caused by subsequent disasters. Flooding that occurred on 19 March 2026 temporarily caused outages in the North Tapanuli region, affecting four substations and 54 customers. However, quick handling on the ground succeeded in minimising the impacts.

The recovery of the electricity sector becomes an important foundation in returning community activities to normal conditions. With electricity restored, public services, economic activities, and social activities of residents can operate more optimally.

Satgas PRR affirms that it will continue to oversee the acceleration of infrastructure recovery, including electricity, until all affected areas are fully restored. Collaboration between the central government, local governments, and state-owned enterprises is the main key to ensuring no community is left behind in the post-disaster recovery process.
