The Task Force for the Acceleration of Post-Disaster Rehabilitation and Reconstruction (Satgas PRR) in Sumatra has assessed that inter-regional financial assistance from local governments in North Sumatra and West Sumatra to disaster-affected areas in Aceh represents a tangible form of regional solidarity. The scheme is deemed worthy of strengthening and being used as an example in future disaster management.

As of 22 June 2026, the Satgas PRR noted that most of the inter-regional financial assistance has been realised. From North Sumatra, aid has been distributed by the Provincial Government of North Sumatra and seven district and city governments to several affected areas in Aceh, such as Central Aceh, Aceh Tamiang, Bener Meriah, North Aceh, Pidie Jaya, East Aceh, Bireuen, and Gayo Lues.

Meanwhile, support from 15 district and city governments in West Sumatra has also shown positive progress. To date, most of the aid has been allocated and entered the recipient regions’ local treasury accounts. Only a few regions are still completing the administrative disbursement process.

Chairman of the Sumatra Post-Disaster Satgas PRR, Muhammad Tito Karnavian, expressed his appreciation for this progress. According to him, inter-regional assistance not only provides fiscal support for affected areas but also demonstrates the spirit of mutual cooperation between regions in facing disasters.

“Thank you. The progress is good. It would be best if the heads of recipient regions visit the heads of donor regions, express their gratitude, and publicise it in the media to show inter-regional solidarity in helping disaster areas. This could be a model for the future. Disasters can happen in any region,” Tito said in a statement on Thursday (25/6/2026).

Previously, the central government allocated an additional Regional Transfer of Rp10.6 trillion to local governments in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra to support rehabilitation, reconstruction, and disaster risk reduction.

The government is also encouraging the inter-regional grant scheme for areas with high recovery needs, particularly in Aceh.

From North Sumatra, the total aid commitment reached approximately Rp260 billion, originating from the Provincial Government of North Sumatra, Medan City, Deli Serdang Regency, Simalungun Regency, Asahan Regency, Serdang Bedagai Regency, Pematangsiantar City, and Labuhanbatu Regency. Most of these funds have already entered the recipient local governments’ accounts.

In West Sumatra, support is also progressing. Provincial and recipient district/city governments are being encouraged to accelerate the completion of ongoing administrative stages. The central government has also provided facilities through a policy allowing the distribution of financial assistance without requiring approval from the Regional People’s Representative Council (DPRD).

Meanwhile, Bireuen Regent Mukhlis, along with officials from the Bireuen Regency Government, visited Asahan Regency directly to thank them for the financial assistance provided to their region.

This step was assessed by the Satgas PRR as a positive example that can strengthen inter-regional relations while reinforcing the spirit of mutual cooperation in post-disaster recovery.
