The Acceleration Task Force for Post-Disaster Rehabilitation and Reconstruction (PRR) of Sumatra is accelerating the construction of permanent housing units (Huntap) for disaster survivors in Aceh, North Sumatra (Sumut) and West Sumatra (Sumbar).

Based on PRR Task Force data as of 26 February, the total Huntap planned across the three provinces reached 17,969 units. Of this total, 401 units have been completed. Huntap construction has proceeded following the completion of most temporary housing (Huntara) units.

In detail, in Aceh, of the 9,430 units planned, 104 units remain under construction. In North Sumatra, of the 4,493-unit target, 524 units are currently being built. This figure increased from 297 units as of 20 February.

Meanwhile in West Sumatra, of the 4,046 units planned, 817 units are in the construction phase. This number rose from 655 units as of 20 February.

The data demonstrates that Huntap construction is still in its initial stages. The process requires land readiness, technical planning and permanent infrastructure in accordance with stricter disaster-resilient building standards compared to temporary housing.

Previously, the Chair of the PRR Task Force for Post-Disaster Sumatra, Muhammad Tito Karnavian, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to prioritise accelerated Huntap construction in affected areas.

“The speed of Huntap construction depends first on data from local governments. This must be verified individually with residents. I will certainly pursue all district heads and governors to ensure data preparation,” said Tito in a written statement on Friday (27 February 2026).

This acceleration is being conducted to provide housing certainty for residents who lost homes due to disasters. However, Tito emphasised that the smooth progress of Huntap construction is heavily dependent on the validity of beneficiary data prepared by local government authorities.

For this reason, he will continue to request completeness of such data from district heads and governors to ensure that the construction process is not hindered by administrative issues.

Construction is being carried out in parallel by cross-sector entities, including the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), the National Police (Polri), the Ministry of Housing and Settlement Area Development (PKP), Tzu Chi Buddhist Foundation, the Coordinating Ministry for Political and Security Affairs, the National Zakat Collection Agency (Baznas), Danantara, and the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin).
