Task Force accelerates infrastructure repairs to restore Sumatran logistics networks
Jakarta — Indonesia’s Acceleration of Post-Disaster Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Task Force (PRR) is intensifying efforts to repair basic infrastructure to restore logistics routes and connectivity following disasters in Aceh Province, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra.
Domestic Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian, who chairs the post-disaster PRR Task Force for Sumatra, said he has coordinated with Public Works Minister Dody Hanggodo to accelerate the reconstruction of bridges damaged by disasters in Sumatra.
“I have already contacted the Public Works Minister and his officials. The Public Works Minister has briefed me,” said Tito during a statement in Jakarta on Friday.
Tito emphasised the importance of accelerating infrastructure development, particularly bridges connecting communities damaged by the disaster, to facilitate citizen mobility and logistics distribution.
Based on PRR Task Force data as of 23 February 2026, connectivity recovery is focused on physical infrastructure including road and bridge repairs, as well as electrical, telecommunications, base transceiver station (BTS), and internet network improvements.
In Aceh, all 38 affected national roads are now functionally operational. Similarly, all 17 affected national bridges are fully functional. For regional roads, 1,521 of 1,637 affected roads, representing 92 per cent, are now functionally operational. Meanwhile, 351 of 650 affected regional bridges, or 54 per cent, are functionally operational.
Progress is similarly accelerating in North Sumatra. All 30 affected national roads are now functionally operational, as are all 5 affected bridges. For regional roads, 607 of 616 affected roads, representing 98 per cent, are now functionally operational. Of 366 affected bridges, 344, or 93 per cent, are functionally operational.
In West Sumatra, recovery progress is also encouraging. All 31 affected national roads are now functionally operational, as are all 13 affected bridges. For regional roads, 149 of 167 affected roads, representing 91 per cent, are now functionally operational. Of 162 affected regional bridges, 95, or 54.9 per cent, are functionally operational.
Recovery of electrical networks and telecommunications services is reinforcing this positive trend. Power supply in West Sumatra has fully recovered, whilst in Aceh and North Sumatra only a small number of customers remain under treatment. Additionally, all base transceiver stations previously affected across the three provinces are now operating at 100 per cent capacity.
