Tasikmalaya City's Sacrificial Animal Purchasing Power Falls 50% Ahead of Eid al-Adha 2026
THE Tasikmalaya City Government, together with a joint task force from the Department of Food Security, Agriculture and Fisheries (DKP3), the Attorney General’s Office, the 0612 Military District Command, and the Tasikmalaya City Police, conducted a sudden inspection (sidak) of several stalls selling sacrificial animals on Thursday (21 May). Acting Mayor Diky Candra Negara said that health checks and animal viability were the top priority ahead of Idul Adha 1447 H/2026. Based on on-site monitoring, all animals inspected were free of contagious diseases.
‘We inspected livestock at several stalls; none of the animals were found to have PMK, including LSD. Thorough preparation is essential to ensure sacrificial animals meet Islamic sharia and health standards,’ said Diky Candra during the visit.
Although animal health is maintained, data show a significant economic downturn. Diky revealed that public purchasing power this year has fallen drastically by up to 50 percent compared with the previous year.
‘Purchasing power this year appears reduced. Currently, there are 1,532 cattle and 340 sheep, while last year cattle reached 3,310 head. However, we foresee demand may rise as the day approaches,’ added Diky.
Head of the Livestock and Animal Health Section of DKP3 Kota Tasikmalaya, Cecep Kustiawan, emphasised that they had conducted intensive data collection over the past two weeks. Inspections were carried out at farmers’ pens to ensure every animal possesses a Surat Keterangan Kesehatan Hewan (SKKH).
‘All animals that have been inspected and declared healthy are marked with a special label ’S’ (Sehat). We ensure there are no indications of PMK or LSD in Tasikmalaya City,’ Cecep asserted.
In addition to supervision at stalls, the Tasikmalaya City Government has also kept a Slaughterhouse (RPH) ready to operate in accordance with Islamic sharia to serve residents who wish to undertake slaughter with hygienic and halal standards. (H-4)
