Tasikmalaya City Health Department Launches Measles Immunisation Drive, Targeting 6,000 Toddlers
The Tasikmalaya City Health Department in West Java has identified 38 people testing positive for measles based on laboratory examinations from the Provincial Health Laboratory of West Java. These cases were detected from early January to March 2026. The Health Department recorded 120 suspected cases. Currently, all patients have recovered after receiving intensive inpatient treatment. The Head of the Tasikmalaya City Health Department, Asep Hendra, stated that measles cases in the area from January to March included 120 suspected cases. Laboratory tests from the West Java Provincial Health Laboratory confirmed 38 children among them as positive for measles. All patients received care at Dr Soekardjo Hospital. There were no deaths in these incidents. “The findings began with examinations at community health centres. We found 120 suspected cases,” he said on Wednesday (8/4). To curb ongoing measles cases in Tasikmalaya City, immunisation efforts continue. “The Health Department is vigorously conducting measles immunisation or Outbreak Response Immunisation (ORI) at community health centres and integrated health posts, targeting more than 6,000 toddlers. Mothers with toddlers are urged to have their children checked to build immunity. Measles can be prevented through immunisation,” he added. According to Asep, immunisation targets children aged 9 months, 18 months up to Year 1 of primary school. Health workers at community health centres are advised to remain vigilant, wear masks, and use personal protective equipment. “We hope health personnel can tighten inspections for emerging symptoms starting with phlegmy coughs, high fever, runny nose, red eyes, and red spots appearing on the body. If those symptoms appear, seek intensive treatment immediately. Patients with symptoms at home should not gather with healthy children, including during meals,” he stressed.
