Tarumanagara Foundation Marks 67 Years with Commitment to Education and Social Care
The Tarumanagara Foundation has reinforced its contributions to social welfare, education, and healthcare as it marks its 67th anniversary, viewing such strengthening as strategically vital amid current global economic and geopolitical challenges. Chairman of the Foundation’s Board, Prof. Dr. Ariawan Gunadi, S.H., M.H., stated that the foundation’s role extends beyond developing higher education to include a tangible responsibility to assist the wider community. “We want to be more present in society. Current global economic and geopolitical conditions mean many people still need help. Therefore, the foundation’s social function must be carried out in a real and sustainable manner,” Ariawan said during the 67th anniversary celebration at the Royal Taruma Hospital Auditorium in West Jakarta on Thursday (18/6/2026). The event, themed “Legacy & Sustainable, Impacts for Society”, was lively and warm, attended by various figures and the families of the foundation’s founders and leaders.
Ariawan explained that regular humanitarian, educational, and health programmes include blood donation drives, health services, disaster relief, partnerships with orphanages and madrasahs, scholarships, and support for nursing homes and places of worship. He stressed that these activities are not merely ceremonial annual events but represent a long-term commitment, with benefits intended to be genuinely felt by the community. The foundation allocates billions of rupiah annually for scholarships alone, not including additional aid for health, humanitarian disasters, orphanages, nursing homes, and places of worship. Over the past five years, the foundation has also completed around 120 construction and development projects, encompassing educational facilities, communal spaces, campus infrastructure, and learning support amenities, all aimed at creating a more modern and comfortable learning environment for students and educators.
Ariawan further revealed that a strategic project, the development of Untar’s Campus 4 on 138.5 hectares of land, is currently in the master plan design phase, with a groundbreaking ceremony expected in 2027. Untar Rector Prof. Dr. Amad Sudiro, S.H., M.H., acknowledged that the foundation’s support has been instrumental in transforming Untar into a high-impact campus, with tangible benefits felt by the entire academic community. He noted that synergy and collaboration between the university and the foundation are key assets in boosting educational quality and community service. Chairman of the Foundation’s Board of Trustees, Indra Gunawan Masman, M.B.A., paid tribute to the founders and past leaders for establishing a robust system with a clear division of roles, where the foundation manages resources and ensures organisational sustainability while the university focuses on the Tri Dharma Perguruan Tinggi. He emphasised that institutional longevity should not depend on specific individuals and that leadership regeneration, including giving opportunities to competent young cadres, is essential for a healthy organisation facing future challenges.
