The management of Ragunan Zoo (TMR) is pushing for an adjustment to the tourist attraction’s entrance tariffs to improve the quality of service and animal welfare.

“The proposal for tariff adjustment has actually been discussed several times in recent years, but has not been finalised to date. The proposal has been resubmitted as part of an effort to encourage improved management quality at Ragunan Zoo,” said the Public Relations Officer of Ragunan Zoo, Wahyudi Bambang, in a statement in Jakarta on Friday.

The Ragunan Zoo management remains committed to enhancing the quality of service to the public while strengthening its functions in conservation, education, research, and recreation.

In line with this commitment, the proposal for tariff adjustments at Ragunan Zoo has once again come to the fore.

Wahyudi believes that the tariff adjustment needs to be considered by taking into account the evolving management needs of the zoo. Furthermore, the entrance fees for Ragunan Zoo have not undergone any adjustments for over 20 years, while the requirements for animal maintenance, meeting animal welfare standards, facility upkeep, and the upgrading of infrastructure continue to grow.

“The tariff adjustment is not solely about increasing costs for visitors, but is expected to be part of a long-term effort to improve the management quality of Ragunan Zoo, create a better visiting experience, and ensure that animals receive increasingly high-quality care and environments,” he said.

The utilisation of increased revenue will be carried out in accordance with the financial management regulations of the Regional Public Service Agency (BLUD) and applicable laws and regulations.

Priority for improving management quality is directed towards, among other things, enhancing animal welfare through the provision of food and nutrition, healthcare services, care, behavioural enrichment, and the improvement of animal habitats and environments.

Secondly, quality improvements also encompass service facilities, equipment, and infrastructure, so that visitors receive services that are increasingly safe, comfortable, educational, inclusive, and high-quality.

With these quality improvements, Ragunan Zoo is expected to continue developing into a modern, professional conservation institution capable of meeting international zoo management standards.

Commission C of the Jakarta Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) plans to adjust the Ragunan Zoo entrance tariff to Rp10,000. A rate of Rp10,000 is considered rational and affordable compared to other tourist destinations in Jakarta, such as Ancol and Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII).
