Targeting Remote Areas, 50 Alfamart Cinemas Planned This Year
TANGERANG, KOMPAS.com - The opening of the first Alfamart X Layar Digi mini cinema in the Gading Serpong area, Tangerang, Banten, has received a positive response.
Through comments on the Instagram social media post by @layardigi, netizens have enthusiastically requested that Alfamart cinemas also open in areas near their homes.
“Our target is 50 locations first (this year),” said Timothy when met by the media after the inauguration of the Alfamart mini cinema at Ruko Agricola in Gading Serpong, Wednesday (1/4/2026).
In particular, he is targeting remote areas in Indonesia that have not yet been reached by large cinema screens.
“Later, we will open more in the regions. Outside Java, there are many requests, in Kalimantan, but our target is 50 locations first,” said Timothy.
Alfamart’s Corporate Affairs Director, Solihin, confirmed the statement. According to him, the operations and management of the micro cinemas, including services to consumers, are fully handed over to Layar Digi.
“The sooner, the more, we will be very pleased because honestly, we are helped by the presence of Layar Digi,” said Solihin.
“We also hope that what happens is an increase in visitor traffic to Alfamart, and I even guarantee that it will definitely happen like that,” he added.
Timothy emphasised that the presence of this mini cinema also aims to support players in Indonesia’s film industry.
“For Indonesian filmmakers, we also want to be present so that there is growth. So, Indonesian filmmakers, if they want to produce film works, they don’t have to worry because there are other alternative screens,” said Timothy.
According to Timothy, Alfamart stores that are deemed eligible to open mini cinema studios must at least have two-storey shophouse buildings with a standard width of 4.5 metres.
Alfamart Ruko Agricola has become the standard building for mini cinemas in this minimarket chain, as well as a showcase studio that prospective investors can view as a model.
One Alfamart outlet, said Timothy, could potentially have more than one mini cinema studio, depending on the available capacity.
The operating hours of the mini cinemas will also follow those of each Alfamart store, but it does not rule out the possibility of the mini cinemas opening longer.
“Coincidentally, this store is open 24 hours, so here there can be a maximum of six film sessions, but actually it can go until 2 a.m.,” said Timothy.
