Target for New Face of Jl Rasuna Said Completed on Jakarta's Anniversary
All the abandoned monorail pillars on Jalan HR Rasuna Said in South Jakarta have been cut down and tidied up. DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung stated that the beautification of Jalan Rasuna Said, now free from monorail pillars, will be inaugurated on 22 June 2026.
The monorail project in Jakarta has been stalled for years, leaving concrete pillars in the middle of the road. The presence of these pillars has often been complained about as they are considered to disrupt the view and urban layout.
With the completion of the pillar removal, the DKI Provincial Government is now focusing on comprehensive improvements to make the Rasuna Said corridor a more comfortable and representative area.
While attending the ‘Halalbihalal Paguyuban Jawa Tengah 2026’ event at the Jakarta Timur Mayor’s office on Sunday (12/4), Pramono said that Jalan Rasuna Said, free from monorail pillars, will be inaugurated on 22 June 2026.
“One more thing from Bang Yos that was conveyed to me regarding the monorail. That’s why specifically when we tidied up, cut down, and removed the 109 monorail pillars, I handed it over to Bang Yos,” Pramono said in his speech.
Pramono mentioned the many legacies from former DKI Jakarta Governor Sutiyoso during his 1997-2007 term, one of which was the monorail. However, the project was halted due to central government policies at the time.
“Why? I believe Bang Yos has many legacies, especially in infrastructure and transportation sectors, but this monorail must have been a burden for him. Not because of Bang Yos, but due to changes in central government policies,” he explained.
The former State Secretary said he would inaugurate Jalan Rasuna Said, free from monorail pillars, on 22 June 2026. Pramono will invite Sutiyoso to jointly inaugurate Jalan Rasuna Said.
“Ladies and gentlemen, now the monorail is gone; on 22 June, I will inaugurate it and invite Bang Yos. Our Jalan Rasuna Said Kuningan, its pedestrian path will definitely be like Jalan Sudirman-Thamrin,” he said.
Pramono described this as the new face in Jakarta’s development.
“And that is what becomes the new showcase that Jakarta now, in building, I am not someone who is what, many on social media and such, I am just a worker. And it is completed,” he said.
Referring to the official website of the DKI Jakarta Province Library and Archives Service, 22 June is Jakarta’s birthday as it coincides with the success of Fatahillah’s forces from the Demak and Cirebon Sultanates in recapturing Sunda Kelapa port from the Portuguese on 22 June 1527.
