Jakarta (ANTARA) - Central Tapanuli Regent Masinton Pasaribu said that the night of Takbir celebrations, centred at Pandan Square in Central Tapanuli, North Sumatra, were held simply, unlike previous years, considering the situation and condition of residents, many of whom are still in mourning.

“So after carrying out a full month of sacred worship during Ramadan, they (the Muslim community) organised and carried it out in a simple atmosphere,” said Masinton Pasaribu at the courtyard of the Grand Al Muslimin Mosque, Pandan, on Friday.

According to him, this procession celebration is a tradition that is always carried out every year by Muslims in the area.

However, for this year 2024, people from other villages could not participate much because they are still in mourning and on alert.

Masinton said that most of the community in the disaster area are still enveloped in worry when it rains, fearing follow-up floods like those that occurred a few weeks ago.

“We remain on alert and vigilant because if the potential for heavy rain upstream is very intense, the disaster threat here is flooding and landslides. Well, without reducing the meaning of Eid al-Fitr, this Takbir procession is organised as an Islamic tradition to welcome the Day of Victory,” he said.

Although this night of Takbir procession activity is different from celebrations in previous years, Andhika Putra (30), one of the residents of Pandan Subdistrict, still feels grateful to be able to join this annual event as a celebration of victory after performing worship during Ramadan.

“So in my opinion, this night procession is indeed not as grand as previous Takbir nights. Considering that many of our brothers and sisters are still recovering from the flash flood disaster a while ago,” said Andhika.

Andhika, who came with his family, hopes that the government continues to strive to restore the affected villages and provide attention to their brothers and sisters.
