Tapir Sighting on Sumatra's Main Highway in Lampung Draws Netizens' Attention
A tapir became the centre of attention after being recorded roaming on the Trans-Sumatra Highway (Jalinsum) in the Register 45 area, Mesuji Regency, Lampung, on Thursday (2/7). In a video circulating on social media, the black-and-white patterned tapir was seen standing in the middle of the road, causing several motorists to stop their vehicles to observe it. Head of the Region III Lampung Conservation Section at the Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BKSDA), Itno Itoyo, stated that his office had not yet received an official report regarding the tapir’s appearance. Nevertheless, Itno explained that the Register 45 area remains a natural habitat for tapirs and various other wild animals, making the appearance of the animal around the forest area still highly possible.
