Tanjung Uban Immigration Deports Moroccan for Visa Violation

The Tanjung Uban Immigration Office in Bintan Regency, Riau Islands, has deported a Moroccan citizen with the initials EMB (29) for misusing his residence permit by working whilst holding a tourist visit visa. Head of Tanjung Uban Immigration Adi Hari Pianto stated that EMB entered Indonesia using a tourist visit visa but was employed as a bartender at a café in the Tanjung Uban area. “This case came to light after we received a public report regarding a foreign national engaging in suspicious activities at a café in Tanjung Uban,” Adi said during a press briefing at his office on Friday. Following up on the report, immigration officers conducted surveillance and an inspection at the location. During the inspection, officers found EMB mixing and serving drinks to café customers. According to Adi, this activity was inconsistent with the residence permit held by EMB as a tourist visit visa holder. Officers subsequently secured his passport and carried out further examination. “From the results of the examination, EMB entered Indonesia via the Batam Centre International Port on 5 June 2026, then continued his journey to Bintan,” he stated. Adi confirmed that EMB was deported to his country of origin, Morocco, on 14 June 2026 after the entire examination process was completed. He added that his office also issued a warning to the café owner to be more selective in employing foreign nationals and to comply with applicable immigration regulations. “We must protect all MSME industries together. We remain firm against foreign nationals who violate immigration rules, especially if it harms Indonesian citizens,” he said.
