Tanjung Priok Port Police Seize IDR 37 Billion in Narcotics in First Half of 2026
The Tanjung Priok Port Police have seized various narcotics and dangerous drugs valued at approximately IDR 37 billion from the disclosure of 58 cases during the period of January to June 2026. “From January to June 2026, the Tanjung Priok Port Police Narcotics Unit successfully seized narcotics with an estimated economic value of IDR 37 billion,” said Tanjung Priok Port Police Chief AKBP Aris Wibowo at the police headquarters in North Jakarta on Friday. According to Aris, the disclosure of dozens of cases was the result of the hard work of the Narcotics Unit together with all police sectors within the Tanjung Priok Port Police jurisdiction in combating the illicit drug trade. From all the cases uncovered, police confiscated various types of narcotics in significant quantities. The seized evidence included 3,201.56 grams gross of methamphetamine, 5,529 pills of Etomidate, 55.35 grams gross of cannabis, 15.2 grams gross of synthetic tobacco, and 25 pills of ecstasy. In addition, officers also seized 1,206 pills of dangerous pharmaceuticals consisting of various types, including Eximer, Tramadol, Trihexyphenidyl, Calmlet, Merlopam, Alprazolam, and Riklona. Aris stated that the success in uncovering dozens of drug cases is not only measured by the number of suspects or the value of evidence seized. The more important aspect is the social impact achieved. Based on police estimates, all the narcotics successfully confiscated could have potentially harmed the lives of tens of thousands of people had they escaped and circulated in the community. “From all the evidence seized, it is estimated that we have saved approximately 67,000 lives from the dangers of drug abuse,” he said. Aris emphasised that this figure proves the crucial role of drug eradication efforts in protecting the younger generation and the public from the threat of drug dependency. The suspects face charges under multiple laws depending on the nature of their criminal acts. They are being prosecuted under Law Number 35 of 2009 on Narcotics, Law Number 17 of 2023 on Health in conjunction with Law Number 1 of 2026 on Criminal Code Adjustments. The penalties imposed are severe, ranging from a minimum of five years’ imprisonment to life imprisonment or even the death penalty, depending on the role of the suspect and the quantity of evidence involved. Aris committed to continuing the relentless pursuit of drug traffickers without discrimination and called on the public to play an active role in the fight against drugs by avoiding abuse and reporting any information to the police. The public can submit reports through the nearest police station or via the Police Call Center 110. “The war on drugs is not over. We will not stop fighting, and the state must not lose,” Aris declared.
