Tanjung Priok police arrest man over mosque donation box theft
The Tanjung Priok Police Station’s Criminal Investigation Unit in North Jakarta arrested a man identified as SR (38) for stealing from the donation box of Mushalla Miftahul Jannah on Jalan Swasembada Timur VII, Kebon Bawang Village, Tanjung Priok, North Jakarta.
The suspect, identified as SR (38), was arrested on Friday, 22 May at 7pm WIB following a report from the mosque’s management, said Tanjung Priok Police Station Criminal Investigation Unit Chief AKP Handam Samudro in Jakarta on Sunday.
He stated that the theft occurred on Friday, 6 May, and the mosque’s management immediately reported the incident to the police.
According to the report from MI, a mosque manager, he noticed the donation box was damaged at the hinge during inspection.
“Upon inspection, the contents of the donation box were missing. The victim had not yet counted the amount,” he said.
The mosque’s management promptly reported the incident to Tanjung Priok Police Station, and officers immediately commenced an investigation.
Subsequently, based on evidence, the team apprehended the suspect in the Koja area along with physical evidence including a batik shirt, trousers, motorcycle keys, and the vehicle’s registration certificate (STNK), which the suspect is believed to have used during the incident.
“The suspect was then taken to Tanjung Priok Police Station for further investigation,” he said.
Handam added that the suspect, who works odd jobs, admitted to taking the money from the donation box by breaking the hinge with a screwdriver.
The suspect stated that the stolen amount was Rp1.52 million and was used for personal expenses,” he said.
