Tanjung Priok Gridlocked Due to Container Depot Activities in Cakung
Severe and extended traffic congestion was reported along Yos Sudarso Road towards Tanjung Priok Port and into Cilincing on Monday evening (25 May). The Tanjung Priok Port Authority’s KSOP stated that the severe congestion was caused by container depot activities in the Cakung area of East Jakarta. ‘It is true that congestion occurred due to the depots,’ said Captain Heru, Head of KSOP Tanjung Priok Port Authority, as quoted by Antara in Jakarta on Monday. He stressed that the severe congestion was not due to loading and unloading activities within Tanjung Priok Port. Nor was it caused by a high number of berthed vessels leading to long queues outside the port area. ‘The congestion is due to container depot activities in Cakung, East Jakarta,’ Heru said. The depots are directly connected to Tanjung Priok Port access via Cilincing Road through the Cakung Cilincing area. ‘Loading, unloading, and vessel berthing operations today were normal,’ he said. Earlier, Assistant Commissioner Ginanjar Tejasasmita, head of Tanjung Priok Port Police traffic unit, confirmed that the prolonged congestion in the Tanjung Priok area on Monday afternoon was not due to port operations. ‘The congestion did not originate from Tanjung Priok Port,’ said AKP Ginanjar Tejasasmita in Jakarta on Monday. He said severe congestion had already occurred on Cilincing Road, affecting vehicles exiting Tanjung Priok Port via Post 9. Meanwhile, Rudi Saptari, head of the Sub-District Transportation Department (Sudinhub), said the prolonged congestion since Monday afternoon, lasting into the evening, was caused by container depot activities. ‘This congestion is due to activities at BSA, Temas, and Seacon depots,’ he said. To address the congestion, transportation department officers have been deployed to manage traffic at several points, including Jampea Road, Yos Sudarso Road, Permai Traffic Light, Post 9, Kramat Traffic Light, and Kebon Baru Traffic Light.
