Tanjung Priok Customs continues to strengthen customs and excise literacy among academics through educational activities and field visits for university students. These visits aim to provide direct learning regarding customs and excise business processes within the port area.

Tanjung Priost Customs hosted students from two universities throughout May 2026. The visits included students from the Faculty of Economics and Business at Universitas Pembangunan Nasional (UPN) ‘Veteran’ Jakarta on Tuesday (5/5/2026) and students from the International Trade Study Programme at Widyatama University Bandung on Tuesday (12/5/2026).

Approximately 165 students, accompanied by supervising lecturers, participated in the activities. The UPN ‘Veteran’ Jakarta group consisted of about 100 participants, while the Widyatama University group included around 65 students.

The programme was conducted in two sessions: a presentation at the Synergy Hall of the Tanjung Priok Customs Office and a field visit to the New Priok Container Terminal (NPCT 1).

During the presentation session, participants received explanations regarding the duties and functions of Customs, including its roles as a revenue collector, community protector, trade facilitator, and industrial assistant. They also gained an overview of customs processes and export-import procedures at the port.

Furthermore, students gained an understanding of customs supervision, import and export restrictions (lartas), and various policies designed to support the smooth flow of national logistics.

Niko Budi Dharma, Head of the Compliance Guidance and Information Services Division at Tanjung Priok Customs, explained that these activities are part of the Customs Office’s commitment to providing learning opportunities for the academic community. Through these field visits, Tanjung Priok Customs provides a direct learning space for students to understand the agency’s role in monitoring the flow of goods entering and leaving Indonesia.

“We also hope that students can understand the logistics chain process, the role of Customs as a trade facilitator, and the importance of disseminating accurate information regarding customs and excise to the public,” Niko stated in a release on Friday (5/6/2026).

The Vice Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business at Widyatama University, Muhammad Bayu Aji Sumantri, expressed appreciation to Tanjung Priok Customs for providing students with the opportunity to learn directly within a customs working environment. He noted that the activity adds value for students by allowing them to see the real-world implementation of theories learned in lectures regarding export-import services and supervision at the port.

In addition to classroom learning, students visited the port area to observe customs activities and service processes at the container terminal. During the visit, participants observed goods supervision mechanisms, including the use of container scanning equipment as part of the modern supervision efforts implemented by Customs.

Through these visits, students gained not only a conceptual understanding of customs and excise but also a practical view of the strategic role of Customs in supporting international trade, maintaining the smooth flow of goods, protecting the community, and supporting national economic growth. Tanjung Priok Customs remains committed to opening educational and collaborative spaces with academics to strengthen customs and excise literacy and build better public understanding of the agency’s duties and functions.
