The Tanjung Perak Port Police in Surabaya conducted urine testing on 45 truck drivers preparing for journeys to other islands at Tanjung Perak Port, as part of safety measures ahead of the 2026 mudik season.

“This is one of our efforts to ensure that travellers have a safe and secure journey to their destinations, and to prevent them from consuming illegal drugs,” said Iptu Suroto, the Head of Public Relations for Tanjung Perak Port Police, in Surabaya on Friday, 13 March.

According to him, the urine testing targeted inter-island truck and bus drivers operating around Jalan Prapat Kurung and the Jamrud Gate at Surabaya Port. Suroto added that the urine testing of truck and bus drivers was conducted randomly to assess driver honesty and traffic discipline. “The urine testing was also conducted randomly at two different locations,” he said.

From the testing of 43 truck and bus drivers, all tested negative for narcotics. Police urged drivers during the 2026 Lebaran mudik period not to drive recklessly and to maintain traffic discipline.

“Because this concerns the safety of many people, we urge drivers not to drive recklessly and to remain disciplined on the roads,” he stated.
