Serang:The Banten Provincial government has proposed that Tanjung Lesung in Pandeglang be designated as a special tourist economic zone.

Banten Culture and Tourism Office chief Egi Djanuiswaty said he hoped the proposal could be approved by the central government. Some 60 tourist sites nationwide have been proposed as special economic zones.

“Besides its good potential, the economic gap in south Banten could be managed,” said Egi.

Banten Hotel and Restaurant Association (PHRI) chairman, Achmad Sari Alam, said he would support the effort as long as it was used for tourism development.

However, added Achmad, the Banten government must be committed and build the road and light infrastructure to facilitate comfortable access. “Otherwise, it will be hard to build tourism in Banten,” he stressed.

Achmad said the PHRI once suggested Banten invite the sub district offices in other tourism areas such as Anyer, Carita and Tanjung Lesung to carry out comparative studies overseas.
