Tanjung Enim CNG Project Accelerated, Palace Confirms Job Creation for Local Residents

The acceleration of the CNG Mother Station construction in Tanjung Enim, Muara Enim Regency, South Sumatra, is not only aimed at strengthening national energy security but is also expected to become a driving force for the regional economy. The government considers this national strategic project will open new job opportunities while boosting economic activity in the surrounding development area. Presidential Chief of Staff Dudung Abdurachman stated that the most tangible benefit the community will feel from the Coal Bed Methane development project is the creation of employment and stronger national energy security. The government aims to ensure the project is not delayed by administrative processes. The completion of various requirements will be carried out in parallel with project preparations so that the development target can be achieved on schedule. The selection of Muara Enim Regency as the location was not without reason. The area is considered to have enormous energy resource reserves, making it a strategic region for domestic gas-based energy development. The CBM development in Tanjung Enim is one of the government’s flagship projects to strengthen the national energy supply while reducing dependence on LPG imports. The region is estimated to hold potential CBM resources of around 9.7 trillion cubic feet. Through the construction of the CNG Mother Station, the gas produced will be compressed before being distributed to various sectors, ranging from household needs to industry. This infrastructure is also projected to strengthen the national gas supply chain while increasing the utilisation of domestic energy. PGN, as Pertamina’s Gas Subholding, has prepared a phased gas distribution scheme, starting from 1 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) up to 25 MMSCFD.
