Tangsel Strengthens HIV/AIDS Response as Mayor Benyamin Davnie Urges Residents to Eliminate ODHA Stigma

The Tangerang Selatan City Government (Tangsel) continues to strengthen HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment through education, health services, and cross-sector collaboration.

Mayor of Tangsel, Benyamin Davnie, emphasised that HIV/AIDS management is not only a health issue but also concerns public awareness, education, and sustainable social support.

Therefore, he called on the public to eliminate stigma and discrimination against people living with HIV/AIDS (ODHA) so that management efforts can be more effective.

“HIV/AIDS management cannot be carried out by the government alone. What is needed is collaboration between the government, health workers, schools, communities, and the public so that prevention and management efforts can operate optimally,” said Benyamin in a press release received by Kompas.com on Wednesday, 20 May 2026.

In addition, education on HIV/AIDS prevention is being intensified, especially for productive-age groups and young generations to have a correct understanding of the importance of healthy living.

“We continue to educate the public so that they do not stigmatise or discriminate against ODHA. They must receive support and access to good health services in order to live life to the fullest,” said Benyamin.

In this effort, the Tangsel City Government has also engaged a range of partners, including community groups, civil society organisations, and educational institutions to strengthen the HIV/AIDS awareness campaign among the public.

“The most important thing is how the public have a shared awareness to both prevent and support one another. In doing so, HIV/AIDS management efforts can be more effective,” he added.
