From Lebak Bulus MRT Station in Jakarta, students from SD Islam Bina Cendekia (SDI-BC) in Kedaung, Pamulang, Tangsel, gathered for a prayer before embarking on an educational expedition to Bogor. The journey continued from Blok M MRT via Trans Jakarta public transport to Bogor.

Using public transport for their journey, the pupils also learned the proper etiquette and safety protocols for using public facilities.

“This expedition is designed to provide hands-on learning outside the classroom while fostering independence and broadening students’ perspectives,” said SDI-BC Head Siti Masitoh, known as Bunda Itoh, to Media Indonesia yesterday.

Upon arrival in Bogor, the visit began at Balai Kirti, where students were introduced to historical values, national struggles, and cultural heritage that form the foundation of the nation’s identity. Bunda Itoh explained that pupils viewed documentary collections and historical artifacts, and listened to explanations about the roles of key figures in Indonesia’s history.

Next, the group proceeded to the Museum of Land and Agriculture. Here, students gained foundational knowledge about soil types, formation processes, and the role of land and agriculture in human life and food security. Through exhibits of traditional and modern agricultural tools and various soil samples, they understood the importance of preserving natural resources for sustainable living.

The group then visited the Zoology Museum, which houses a diverse collection of animal specimens from various species and habitats, ranging from insects and birds to mammals.

“Here, students learn about Indonesia’s biodiversity, animal characteristics, and the role each species plays in the ecosystem. We hope this activity fosters their love and concern for wildlife and environmental conservation,” said Bunda Itoh.

The expedition culminated at Bogor Botanical Gardens, a vast green area serving as a plant conservation and natural tourism hub. Students toured the garden paths, observed thousands of rare and unique plant species from around the world, and enjoyed the cool, pristine environment. Here, they also learned about plants’ benefits to life, conservation methods, and the importance of maintaining ecological balance.

Bunda Itoh expressed gratitude that all activities proceeded orderly and safely, with enthusiastic students. She noted that through visits to these four educational sites and using public transport, students not only expanded their knowledge in history, agriculture, biology, and the environment but also developed independence, discipline, and adaptability in new surroundings.

Parents and guardians praised the SDI-BC expedition as highly positive, noting that students gained knowledge, insights, and camaraderie with their peers.

“This expedition is a valuable experience that supports the holistic development of students’ character and knowledge,” said parent Ade Laily Suryani.

Ade, who is also a teacher at SMP Islamiyah Ciputat and SMK Khazanah Kebajikan, hopes students become independent and disciplined through early morning participation in the expedition. She added that the school expedition aligns with the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education’s (Kemendikdasmen) ‘7 Habits of Great Indonesian Children’ initiative promoted by Minister Abdul Mu’ti, which includes waking early, praying, exercising, studying, eating healthy meals, community engagement, and adequate rest.
