South Tangerang City Health Office (Dinas Kesehatan Kota Tangerang Selatan, Tangsel) conducted monitoring and supervision of the safety of foods served for breaking the fast, or takjil, at a number of strategic points across Tangsel. The activity was carried out by staff from several puskesmas. ‘To ensure that the public can worship with peace of mind and remain healthy, the Tangsel City Health Office together with the UPTD Puskesmas network across Tangsel conducted monitoring and supervision of food safety at various strategic points in the Tangsel area,’ Allin said. The monitoring, Allin said, is an effort by the Tangsel City Government to guarantee the quality of food and prevent residents from the risk of poisoning. ‘This step is taken to ensure the quality of ready-to-eat processed foods and to prevent the risk of food poisoning. Officers conducted spot tests on takjil samples with potential contamination, ensuring there is no use of prohibited food additives,’ Allin explained. Allin noted that in the monitoring, the Tangsel Health Office did not only perform spot tests, but also conducted socialisation and direct education to traders to maintain hygienic food and avoid exposure to dangerous chemical substances. ‘We educate traders to keep food always hygienic and covered, selling places clean, orderly, and far from sources of waste. Also using safe containers (food grade) for consumers,’ he said. He hopes that through these activities they can maintain the commitment to presenting Ramadhan that is healthy, safe and blessed.
