The South Tangerang City Government (Pemkot Tangsel) deployed a joint task force to evacuate residents affected by floods in several areas, including Maharta, Pondok Kacang Prima, and Perumahan Pondok Safari in Jurangmangu Barat, on Sunday, 8 March 2026.

The evacuation response followed rising floodwater levels that inundated residential areas due to heavy rainfall experienced across South Tangerang since the early hours. Water depths varied across locations, bringing normal life to a standstill.

The joint task force, comprising the Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), Fire and Rescue Service, Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP), Health Office, as well as elements of the military and police (TNI-Polri) and volunteers, was deployed to assist in evacuations.

On-site personnel focused on helping evacuate elderly residents, children, and households whose homes were no longer fit for habitation. Evacuations were conducted using rubber boats and the joint team’s operating vehicles.

In addition to evacuating lives, officers also ensured security and helped residents move essential items to minimise material losses caused by rising floodwaters.

The Head of Tangsern BPBD, Sutang Suprianto, stated that personnel were deployed immediately after receiving reports of increasing water levels inundating residential areas.

“As soon as we received reports of rising water levels and inundation in several spots, the BPBD team along with the joint elements moved to the location to evacuate residents, especially vulnerable groups such as the elderly and children. The safety of residents is the top priority in handling this,” Sutang stressed.

The city government and the joint team continue to monitor several flood-prone points to anticipate any further rises in water levels.

“We continue to monitor in several flood-prone areas. Personnel are on standby to respond quickly if water levels rise or if residents require evacuation assistance,” he added.

Currently, evacuees have been directed to temporary shelters that are safer. The Tangsel city government ensures basic needs of affected residents will be met throughout the emergency flood response.

Pemkot Tangsel urges the public to remain vigilant for extreme weather and aftershocks; or to report emergencies to field officers or via the official call center. (H-3)

Pemkot Tangsel continues to expedite flood relief efforts in the Maharta housing complex, Pondok Aren.
