Tangsel Environmental Agency Declares Ciputat TPS Illegal, Urges Residents Not to Litter Indiscriminately
TANGERANG SELATAN - The Tangerang Selatan City Environmental Agency (DLH) has stated that the waste dumping location on Jalan Pemuda in Ciputat is an illegal temporary disposal site (TPS). This is because the site, situated directly in front of SDN 02 Ciputat, is not an official waste disposal point. “We need to clarify that the waste accumulation spot on Jalan Pemuda in Ciputat is not an official TPS,” said DLH head Bani Khosyatullah when contacted by Kompas.com via WhatsApp on Wednesday (29/4/2026). He also urged residents not to dispose of rubbish there to avoid build-up that could disrupt community activities. “We invite all residents to dispose of rubbish in the provided locations. Do not use empty land or roadside areas as dumping spots,” he said. “We have been routinely collecting rubbish from that point and other locations suspected of illegal dumping,” he explained. According to Bani, illegal waste dumping points have also emerged in several other locations. Bani attributed this phenomenon to the low awareness of some community members in properly disposing of rubbish. “This phenomenon arises due to the lack of awareness among parts of society, so collaborative efforts are needed to handle it,” he said. Therefore, he asked residents not to litter indiscriminately, including on empty land and roadsides. Based on observations at the site, several red and black plastic bags were piled up on the road surface to a height of about 50 centimetres (cm). Although the pile was not very high, a pungent odour emanated from the surrounding area.
