TANGERANG SELATAN - The work-from-home (WFH) policy for civil servants (ASN), including those in Tangerang Selatan City (Tangsel), is considered capable of reducing government operational costs. Tangsel Mayor Benyamin Davnie stated that savings can be achieved from reduced fuel oil (BBM) usage to office operational needs. “It will certainly impact savings on BBM, electricity, and other operational costs,” Benyamin said when contacted on Wednesday (1/4/2026). However, Benyamin has not detailed the potential savings amount that can be achieved from the policy. Nevertheless, not all ASN will implement WFH. Employees in public service sectors will continue working at the office on Fridays. “Direct public service matters will still report as usual,” he said. The Tangsel City Government will begin implementing the WFH policy next Friday, following central government provisions. In its implementation, it will collaborate with each head of regional device organisation (OPD) to monitor the ASN work system during WFH. “Supervision is carried out by OPD heads and reported to the mayor through the regional secretary,” said Benyamin. It is known that the central government has set the ASN WFH policy for one day per week, namely every Friday. Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto said the policy aims to encourage work efficiency while continuing the flexible work pattern that was implemented during the COVID-19 pandemic. However, the government ensures that public services continue to run normally. In addition, several essential service units such as health, education, licensing, and disaster management are still required to work from the office. Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian also emphasised that ASN implementing WFH must activate their mobile phones so they can be monitored through the geolocation system. This step is taken to ensure that ASN work from home in accordance with the provisions.
