Tangled Cables to Be Gradually Relocated Underground, Pramono: It Can't Be Done Like Magic

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung will accelerate the planting of utility cables underground through the Integrated Utility Network Facilities (SJUT) programme.

This step is being taken after an incident where a bus got caught in tangled cables, causing a utility pole to collapse in the Tamansari area, West Jakarta, on Sunday (12/4/2026).

Pramono stated that the regional regulation (Perda) related to SJUT has been signed, and the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government will begin focusing on burying utility cables underground.

According to him, the tidying of tangled cables will not only be carried out in the Tamansari area but will be implemented throughout Jakarta. Nevertheless, he emphasised that moving overhead cables to buried ones will require time.

“But this will take time, it can’t be done like bim salabim and everything will be finished. But certainly, the DKI Jakarta Government already has a programme for it,” Pramono concluded.

Previously, an optical pole collapsed on Jalan Mangga Besar Raya, RT 015 RW 01, Kelurahan Tangki, Tamansari, West Jakarta, on Sunday (12/4/2026) afternoon. The incident temporarily disrupted traffic flow in the surrounding area.

Commander of the Jakarta West Regional Coordinator Platoon of the Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) DKI Jakarta, Maulana Syahroni, said the optical pole fell and hit the bundle of cables, impacting the road section.

He explained that the pole collapsed due to its already corroded condition as well as the accumulated load of cables.

“The suspected cause is that the optical cable pole is already corroded due to the accumulated load of cables,” said Maulana.

Nevertheless, there were no fatalities in the incident. BPBD personnel immediately responded after receiving the report at 3:48 PM WIB.

“The handling was completed at 7:36 PM WIB,” Maulana revealed.
