Tangled Cables on MT Haryono Pedestrian Bridge Begin to Be Tidied Up
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The tangled cables on the MT Haryono pedestrian bridge (JPO) in East Jakarta have begun to be tidied up. The cables, which were previously piled up along the edges and tied to the bridge’s railings, appear to have been reduced. Kompas.com observations at the site on Friday (3/4/2026) afternoon showed several workers in project vests and helmets busy with the cables. Iron plates coated with aluminium on the inside were seen being attached to the bridge’s edges. Black cables protrude from their ends. According to one worker, Hilman (not his real name), the cables being tidied are internet cables. They were instructed to organise them starting from Thursday (2/4/2026). “Yes, we’re asked to tidy them up. We started yesterday,” said Hilman when met at the location. Together with his colleagues, Hilman was opening the hooks holding the cable cover plates attached to the bridge’s railings. The cables, which were also previously tied to the railings, have been removed and are now lying on the bridge’s surface. Next, the cables will be inserted into the iron cover plates, similar to those already installed on the other side of the bridge. A resident who often passes through, Imron, feels relieved seeing the work. He appreciates the parties who promptly followed up on residents’ complaints about the tangled cables. He doesn’t mind his journey across the road being disrupted for a short while during the work, as long as the cables are arranged more neatly and do not endanger pedestrians. Besides on the JPO, cable tidying is also visible above the sidewalk on MT Haryono Road towards Cawang. According to Imron, many cables there have been cut. “Here, yes, some have been cut. Over there, the cable protectors are placed along the edge,” explained Imron.
