Tangerang's Puspaga Urges Parents to Be Alert to Mitigating Digital Violence
Tangerang (ANTARA) - The Tangerang City Government, through the Family Learning Centre (Puspaga), is urging parents to raise their awareness in mitigating the risks of digital violence, including cyberbullying, against children. Puspaga Tangerang Counsellor Yulisza Syahtiani in Tangerang on Monday stated that digital bullying has a dangerous domino effect. Although there is no physical contact, the psychological wounds inflicted are very real. Some behavioural changes in children experiencing digital bullying include anxiety, depression, and long-term trauma that can persist into adulthood. Other signs to watch out for include the child suddenly withdrawing, fearing to see phone notifications, unstable emotions, and refusing to go to school without clear reasons. “Bullying in the virtual world is no longer a threat that can be taken lightly. Therefore, we need to carry out mitigation,” she said. Thus, the presence of PP Tunas is expected to serve as a strong instrument for electronic system providers to be more responsible in protecting child users. “Cyberbullying may occur behind the screen, but its impact can ruin the future. We invite all elements of society to be proactive in keeping our digital ecosystem healthy for children’s growth and development,” Yulisza concluded. Through the socialisation of PP Tunas 2025, Puspaga also encourages parents and educators to take concrete steps if they encounter bullying cases, including providing a safe space for children to talk. Acknowledging the child’s experienced trauma as the initial step in recovery. Saving screenshots of unpleasant treatment as evidence. Reporting to the school or through reporting features on social media platforms, and educating children on boundaries and etiquette in communicating in cyberspace.
