Tangerang Tutor Named Suspect in Abuse Case, Victims Total 29 Children

Tangerang Police have named a private tutor with the initials AK (28) as a suspect in a case of alleged sexual abuse of 29 boys in Panongan District, Tangerang Regency, Banten.

All of the victims are known to be students who attended lessons at the suspect’s premises.

Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit at Panongan Police, Ipda Muhammad Hafizh Fadilah, said the suspect has been secured and is now in detention pending further legal proceedings.

“The suspect is currently being held at Panongan Police Station,” Fadil said on Friday (24/7).

According to Hafizh, there are 29 victims in this case, ranging in age from around 8 to 15 years old.

The alleged criminal acts are believed to have taken place at rented accommodation used by the suspect.

In carrying out his actions, the suspect allegedly coaxed the victims by offering them snacks. In addition, his closeness with the students is believed to have been exploited to facilitate his despicable acts.

“When he was about to commit his acts, it was purely through persuasion, luring them with the promise of treats. As a result, they would often stay overnight at his lodgings. Some of the victims were abused while sleeping, while others were abused whilst awake after being coaxed and enticed,” said Hafizh.

Police said all the victims have received psychological support from the regional government to assist their recovery from the trauma they have suffered.

For his actions, AK has been charged under Article 82 of Law No. 17 of 2016 of the Republic of Indonesia, the second amendment to Law No. 23 of 2002 on Child Protection.

“The minimum prison sentence is 5 years, the maximum is 15 years, with a maximum fine of Rp5 billion,” he stated.
