Tangerang turns 51
JAKARTA (JP): Tangerang regency is holding various activities in conjunction with its 51st anniversary, which fell on Dec. 27, yesterday.
H.M. Thamrin, secretary for the regency, said that the activities deal mainly with social affairs, including the provision of assistance to needy people.
He expressed confidence that the central government would soon issue a decree for the removal of its capital from downtown in Tangerang to Tigaraksa in the west of the city.
Moving the capital is expected to enable the regency to improve services to its people living in 15 districts with a population of about 1.6 million.
Supporting facilities, including government buildings and road networks, have so far been built in Tigaraksa. (hhr)
