Tangerang says no land for housing

TANGERANG: The Tangerang administration is considering scrapping plans to build low-cost housing for civil servants because it cannot acquire the land necessary for the project.

"It is impossible to find enough land for the project. Even if we could find the land, the administration budget could not afford it," the head of the Tangerang housing and resettlement agency, Roetiwie, was quoted as saying by Antara on Friday.

She said her office had made an inventory of available land in 104 subdistricts and 13 districts in the municipality.

"Maybe we should look for land outside Tangerang," she said.

Just a few years ago Tangerang was largely a rural area, but it is quickly developing into an industrial town. -- JP
