The Tangerang Regency government is maintaining the disaster emergency status for the Jatiwaringin Final Processing Site (TPA) fire in Mauk District, Banten, even though all flames have been extinguished after a 10-day battle. The emergency status will remain in effect until 14 July 2026. Observations at the site on Friday (10/7) afternoon showed no remaining flames or smoke in the waste pile area. However, joint officers are still conducting damping down operations at several points to prevent any hotspots from re-emerging within the waste pile. Tangerang Regent Maesyal Rasyid stated that cooling operations will continue to be carried out by personnel from the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) and the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) to ensure no residual hotspots could trigger a subsequent fire. “After surveying the entire location, both the western and eastern sectors up to the peak of the pile, thank God no more smoke or fire was found. In accordance with BNPB’s direction, we will continue damping down operations across all areas of the Jatiwaringin TPA,” said Maesyal. He explained that the emergency status has not been revoked because the government will continue intensive monitoring until the designated period ends on 14 July. The results of the evaluation will serve as the basis for either terminating or extending the status. Meanwhile, BNPB’s Head of Tactical Control and Operations Evaluation, Riswandi, said his party remains on standby with personnel and air assets to assist the local government if needed. He also reminded regional governments managing landfills to enhance mitigation measures during the dry season. “This is a lesson for all of us who manage TPA areas to mitigate potential fires like what happened here, starting with damping down and other measures, because the weather, according to BMKG, is very hot and extreme,” he added. Following the fire suppression, the Tangerang Regency Government is preparing to build an embung, or artificial pond, around the Jatiwaringin TPA as part of future fire risk mitigation. The Head of the Tangerang Regency BPBD, Achmad Taufik, said the government will also build infrastructure from Mauk Road to the Jatiwaringin TPA.
