Tangerang prepares infrastructure improvements around Soekarno-Hatta Airport
The Tangerang City Government in Banten is preparing strategic measures involving the arrangement and strengthening of infrastructure in the area surrounding Soekarno-Hatta Airport to support its entry into the top 10 best airports in the world by 2029.
“Soekarno-Hatta Airport is not only Indonesia’s main gateway to the international world, but also one of the main drivers of economic growth for Tangerang City. Therefore, we are ready to support the various acceleration steps being taken so that this target can be achieved,” said Tangerang Deputy Mayor Maryono Hasan on Friday.
Maryono also emphasised that the Tangerang City Government is ready to play a role in supporting the transformation of Soekarno-Hatta Airport, particularly through strengthening the infrastructure of the buffer zone and improving the environmental quality around the airport.
According to him, one focus currently being strengthened is flood management in the area around the airport as part of efforts to improve accessibility, comfort, and the quality of airport services.
“This study will later become the basis for preparing integrated flood management measures in the Soekarno-Hatta area. The aim is not only to reduce the risk of inundation, but also to support the smooth operation of the airport and improve the safety and comfort of the surrounding community,” he explained.
In addition, the results of a study with PT Jasamarga also recommend the construction of a retention pond as one of the long-term solutions for flood control in the airport buffer zone.
“Through collaboration between the central government, regional government, airport operators, and all stakeholders, we are optimistic that the target of making Soekarno-Hatta one of the top 10 airports in the world can be achieved. We are ready to oversee and support every step of this transformation to improve regional competitiveness and community welfare,” concluded Maryono.
Previously, Deputy Mayor Maryono attended a Coordination Meeting on Strengthening Airport Ecosystem Governance led by Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) in Jakarta.
In the meeting, AHY conveyed the target for Soekarno-Hatta Airport to break into the top 10 best airports in the world by 2029. The target is considered realistic considering the upward trend in Soekarno-Hatta’s ranking, which has continued to show progress in recent years.
“We have the spirit to make Soekarno-Hatta Airport a top 10 airport in the world by 2029. This must certainly be supported by strengthening accessibility and the regional ecosystem,” said AHY.
