Tangerang Murder: Police Say Suspect Was Pressured by Wedding Costs
The Directorate of General Criminal Investigation of the Polda Metro Jaya has disclosed the motive of a suspect with the initials RD alias D (25), who committed a violent theft resulting in the death of a victim in Tangerang, was triggered by pressure from his family to meet wedding expenses. Head of Unit V of the Resmob Sub-Directorate of the Polda Metro Jaya’s General Criminal Investigation Directorate, Kompol Arief Ryzki Wicaksana, stated that the suspect initially felt depressed and intended to end his life due to confusion over finding money. “The suspect’s initial intention was to commit suicide because he was confused about finding money to cover the wedding costs. While walking, he saw the victim sleeping,” Arief said in a statement in Jakarta on Tuesday. He explained that the victim was not targeted by the perpetrator from the start. The act was purely spontaneous when the suspect was walking and saw the victim asleep, while his motorcycle was parked not far from the scene. Seeing an opportunity, the suspect abandoned his suicidal intention and instead decided to take possession of the victim’s motorcycle. The suspect then approached and tried to reach into the victim’s trouser pocket to find the ignition key. “During the process of searching for the motorcycle key, the victim woke up and fought back. After that, the perpetrator stabbed the victim,” Arief stated. For his actions, the suspect is charged with multiple articles under the new Criminal Code. “He is already a suspect. The charges are Article 458 and/or Article 479 Paragraph (3) of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code,” Arief said. Previously, a joint team from Sub-Directorate III Tahbang/Resmob of the Polda Metro Jaya’s General Criminal Investigation Directorate arrested a man with the initials RD alias D (25), the perpetrator of a murder accompanied by violent theft against an online motorcycle taxi driver with the initials ATP in Tangerang Regency, Banten. “The suspect was secured on Tuesday morning at 00.30 WIB in a rented house on Jalan Bunderan Kamal, Kamal Muara, Penjaringan, North Jakarta,” said Head of Public Relations of Polda Metro Jaya, Kombes Pol Budi Hermanto, in a statement in Jakarta on Tuesday. However, Budi did not yet explain in detail the chronology of the arrest or the perpetrator’s motive.
