Tangerang Regency (ANTARA) - The Tangerang Regency Government, Banten Province, has instructed its educators to strengthen children’s digital literacy to support the implementation of Government Regulation Number 17 of 2025 on the Governance of Electronic Systems in Child Protection (PP Tunas), aiming to bolster the protection of the younger generation amid digitalisation.

The Head of the Tangerang Regency Education Office, Dadan Gandana, stated in Tangerang on Thursday that this is a commitment to supporting the regulation’s implementation. Nevertheless, strengthening digital literacy in educational units plays a crucial role in supporting related policies.

“We recently conducted guidance on the interactive use of flat panels that were sent to schools by the central government. Thus, teachers can keep up, especially those receiving them, enabling dissemination in each school,” Dadan explained.

“Additionally, we have developed various applications containing digital literacy content, including the school portal. This also greatly aids in improving digital literacy in schools for our students,” he added.

He stated that the Tangerang Regency Government is ready to strengthen digital-based education for students in educational environments with teacher guidance.

Furthermore, they welcome the government’s firmness in protecting children from negative social media exposure that often harms the community, particularly parents.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Primary School Division at the Tangerang Regency Education Office, Dilly Windu, added that to prevent minors from using social media, the Tangerang Regent’s Circular has issued rules restricting gadget use in primary and secondary school environments.

“Meanwhile, for educators or teachers and school principals, they are prohibited from turning on or must use silent mode on their gadgets or smartphones,” he said.

Previously, the Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs, Meutya Hafid, emphasised the urgency of PP Tunas, given the need to safeguard children’s privacy and data in the digital space.

In Ministerial Regulation Number 9 of 2026 as the implementing rule for PP Tunas, it is explained that sanctions apply to platforms that do not comply, including administrative sanctions such as warning letters, temporary access suspension, and access termination.

This regulation takes effect from 28 March 2026, restricting children from high-risk digital platforms, initially applying to eight digital platforms: YouTube, TikTok, Facebook, Threads, Instagram, X, Bigo Live, and Roblox.
