The Tangerang Immigration Office, through its Intelligence and Immigration Law Enforcement Division, is investigating information that went viral on social media regarding a number of passports found scattered around the BSD Bus Stop, Jalan Letjen Sutopo, South Tangerang, on Saturday (6/6).

“Officers have conducted a trace and direct inspection of the location to verify the accuracy of this information,” stated the Head of the Tangerang Immigration Office, Hasanin, in a statement in Jakarta on Monday.

He noted that when officers arrived at the location on Sunday (7/6) evening at approximately 21:00 WIB, the pile of passports that had caused a stir online was no longer there. However, officers discovered other physical evidence that strengthened the indication that the documents had previously been present. At the scene, officers secured two passport covers that had been separated from their biodata and main pages. Additionally, several sheets of documents consisting of Hajj deposit proofs, which are strongly suspected to be linked to the scattered passports, were also found.

Following up on these findings, Hasanin explained that the Tangerang Immigration Office, under the Ministry of Immigration and Correctional Services, is immediately implementing several tactical steps. “First, the immigration authorities will check the passport numbers in the passport issuance system to track data and further details regarding the owners and the guarantors of said passports,” Hasanin said.

“Furthermore, we are also conducting the collection of materials and information (pulbaket) and further in-depth investigation to identify the party suspected of discarding the passports and related documents,” he added.

According to him, the results of the field investigation and in-depth study will serve as the legal basis for determining further examination and handling steps in accordance with applicable immigration regulations.

Previously, a video went viral on the Instagram account @tangerang.terkini showing numerous passports scattered in the South Tangerang area on Saturday (6/6). “A number of old passports belonging to Hajj and Umrah pilgrims were seen scattered around the bus stop on Jalan Letnan Sutopo, specifically at the BSD Modern Market and Santa Ursula intersection, Saturday (06/06/2026),” the account wrote.
