Tangerang freezes permit issuance

JAKARTA (JP): The local administration of Tangerang, West
Java, has temporarily frozen the issuance of permits for the
construction of new factories in the regency.

The administration's Ena Karlina told Antara on Wednesday that
the decision to freeze the issuance of permits until August was
made in accordance with a circular from the Ministry of Industry,
which declared that Tangerang was closed to new factories.

"Actually there are still another 3,000 hectares earmarked by
the city administration for the development of industrial
estates, in line with city planning. But we have to abide by the
memorandum from the industry ministry and wait for further
instructions from the central government," she said.

Ena said that the 3,000 hectares designated for industrial
estate development were located in the Cikupa, Pasar Kemis and
Balaraja districts. (hhr)
