Tangerang faces water shortage

JAKARTA (JP): Tangerang, an industrial town 26 km west of Jakarta, will face an acute shortage of clean water soon because the Cisadane river, which passes through the area, can no longer supply the area, a researcher said Wednesday.

Arryanto Sagian, a Ministry of Industry and Trade research official, told Antara the river could not provide enough water.

At a workshop on water resources management in Cisarua, Bogor, he said Villa Lippo, Gading Serpong, and other housing complexes alone used up almost all the water the Cisarua provided.

Arryanto said the river also supplied industrial complexes covering 3,345 hectares. (05)
