Tangerang Environmental Agency Clamps Down on Illegal Rubbish Dumps on Jalan Gembor Raya
Illegal waste disposal sites (TPS) remain widespread in Tangerang City, despite recent enforcement efforts by the city administration through the Environmental Agency (DLH). A site on Jalan Gembor Raya, located in Kunciran ward, Pinang district, Tangerang City, was sealed because it lacked the necessary operational permits. Head of the Tangerang City Environmental Agency, Wawan Fauzi, stated that action against illegal dumps is taken to prevent environmental contamination of land, water, and air, which can harm surrounding communities. The enforcement was marked by the installation of a sealing notice board. “Today we, together with relevant authorities, carried out enforcement against an illegal dump operating without a permit,” Wawan said following the action on Thursday (11/6). Because the operation did not comply with existing regulations, the matter will be referred to Civil Service Investigators (PPNS) of the Tangerang City Public Order Agency (Satpol PP) for strict action against the dump’s operator. “After we seal it, local district authorities will monitor the site. However, if the activity continues, we will not hesitate to take firm measures,” he stressed. Wawan further explained that his agency will target several other illegal dumps in the coming days, including sites on Jalan Dipati Unus in Cibodas district and Kampung Jati Baru in Benda district. Wawan also urged public participation. “We hope for community involvement in reporting illegal dumps to the City Government or the Tangerang City Environmental Agency,” he emphasised. According to available records, illegal dumps recently sealed by the agency are located in several areas, including along the banks of the Poris River in Pinang district, at several points along roadsides in Cipondoh district, around the Situ Bulakan local tourist area in Periuk district, and at several spots along the Cisadane River banks in Tangerang district.
