Tangerang Environmental Agency: Cisadane River Water Quality Now Meets Standards
Tangerang (ANTARA) — The Tangerang City Environmental Agency (DLH) in Banten has confirmed that the water quality of the Cisadane River now meets regulatory standards, based on laboratory test results conducted after a pollution incident.
"The test results show that the Cisadane River's water quality has met the required standards," said Tangerang City DLH Head Wawan Fauzi in Tangerang on Tuesday.
Wawan said the accelerated recovery of water quality was the result of coordinated efforts between the government, volunteers and environmental community groups who assisted with the response on the ground.
Nevertheless, the Tangerang City DLH continues to carry out sterilisation and monitoring activities. The Cisadane River had already shown signs of recovery from the second day after the incident.
As part of ongoing oversight, the DLH and the Ministry of Environment conducted a river survey to ensure there are no remaining sources of contamination and that water conditions remain stable.
"We will continue to carry out regular monitoring. We want to ensure that water quality is maintained and that no further pollution occurs," he stressed.
With the recovery of the Cisadane River's water quality, it is hoped that community activities dependent on the river can return to normal, whilst reinforcing the collective commitment to environmental preservation.
"Residents who carry out activities along the Cisadane River can now resume them normally, though they should continue to prioritise safety and health," he said.
Environment Minister Hanif Faisol Nurofiq has prepared a lawsuit against PT Biotek Saranatama, the owner of a pesticide storage warehouse that contaminated approximately 22.5 kilometres of the Cisadane River, affecting the areas of South Tangerang, Tangerang City and Tangerang Regency.
The measure was taken as a firm response by the government against environmental offenders, who must bear full responsibility for remediation.
"For the criminal aspect, the local police chief will follow up on that. As for the civil aspect, we will proceed as stipulated under Articles 87 and 90 of Law No. 32/2009," said Minister Hanif Faisol Nurofiq.
