Tangerang enjoys tax revenue

TANGERANG: Newly elected Mayor Wahidin Halim on Thursday gave five motorcycles to his subordinates. He said the five offices had efficiently collected property taxes, adding that tax revenue this year has far exceeded the target.

The recipients were the offices of Kelapa Indah, Pabuaran Tumpeng and Sudimara Barat subdistricts, as well as Periuk and Karawaci districts.

The municipal administration had aimed to collect Rp 68.9 billion (US$8.1 million) in property tax revenue this year, but, according to the administration's Property and Financial Agency head Abdul Rochim, as of Nov. 14, as much as Rp 69.5 billion had been collected. "We're exceeding the target," he said.

However, Wahidin expressed hope that all districts would work harder to collect taxes "so we can develop our town to meet what the community expect from us". -- JP
