Tangerang (ANTARA) - Irman Pujahendra, head of Tangerang’s Civil Police (Satpol PP), has explained that the pattern of illegal alcohol sales has shifted significantly towards utilising social media and online sales channels.

In response to this trend, the authorities will continue coordinating with law enforcement agencies to suppress the circulation of illegal alcohol, including through strengthened local regulations.

“Going forward, we are pushing for strengthened local ordinances so that enforcement can be more stringent, particularly against sellers who repeatedly violate the law. Additionally, we are also encouraging the public to actively report any suspected illegal alcohol sales in their neighbourhoods,” he said.

Through the occasion of the city’s 33rd anniversary, the Tangerang City Government hopes that efforts to eradicate illegal alcohol can become increasingly effective, thereby creating a safe, orderly environment that supports sustainable improvement in the quality of life for residents.

For instance, the destruction of thousands of alcohol bottles today represents enforcement seizures accumulated over one year and has undergone legal proceedings in accordance with applicable regulations.

“A total of 1,128 bottles of illegal alcohol have been secured and have received court rulings, so the destruction could be carried out today. This represents our commitment to continue conducting patrols and surveillance, especially at high-risk points for illegal alcohol distribution,” he said.

Tangerang Mayor Sachrudin added that illegal alcohol circulation presents substantial potential for disrupting public order and security in the environment, and can cause negative impacts on health, social conditions, and the future of young people.

For this reason, Tangerang City Government is committed to consistently and continuously enforcing Local Regulation No. 7/2005.

“Tangerang City Government, together with the Civil Police and all relevant stakeholders, will continue to take firm, measured, and sustained steps in eradicating illegal alcohol distribution in Tangerang,” he emphasised.
