The Ministry of Environment (KLH) has assessed that Tangerang City has made a significant leap in environmental improvement through the processing of waste into alternative fuel, known as Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF). Deputy for Climate Change Control and Carbon Economic Value Governance at KLH, Ary Sudijanto, stated that while there is great potential for co-firing in Steam Power Plants (PLTU) and the cement industry, an evaluation noted that the volume of waste managed by Tangerang City still needs to be increased. Full commitment as a satellite city of the capital is highly anticipated to maximise this potential, as the amount currently managed remains low. Ary Sudijanto’s statement was delivered at the Environmental Forum held as part of the 18th National Working Meeting of the Association of Indonesian City Governments (APEKSI) in Medan. The Tangerang City Environmental Agency (DLH) was entrusted as one of the main speakers to present the success of implementing the RDF technology. The agency received appreciation from other cities, including a plan by the Surabaya Environmental Agency to conduct a direct comparative study to Tangerang. DLH Kota Tangerang became one of the speakers at the 18th APEKSI Environmental Forum, where they were given the trust to explain how the city is currently reducing its waste through RDF technology.
