Tangerang City Government Has Not Yet Mandated WFH for Civil Servants Every Friday, Awaiting Central Government Circular

TANGERANG - The Tangerang City Government (Pemkot) has not yet established the implementation of the work-from-home (WFH) policy for civil servants (ASN) every Friday, in line with the central government’s directive. Deputy Mayor Maryono stated that they are still awaiting the official circular from the central government before making a decision. “We are waiting for the circular from the relevant ministry, and once it reaches us, we will certainly discuss it,” Maryono said when met by Kompas.com in Neglasari, Tangerang City, on Wednesday (1/4/2026). Therefore, the policy will be further discussed through an internal meeting after the circular is received. “If WFH is recommended on Fridays, this will be re-examined by us for deliberation, and then we will announce to all employees whether it will be set for Friday or another day,” he said. In Tangerang City, particularly every Friday, ASN are already required to cycle to work. This policy has been in place for one year, since 2025. This serves as a consideration because the central government’s planned WFH also falls on Friday, potentially conflicting with the cycling programme. “If cycling is mandatory every Friday, but for WFH, we haven’t decided yet. We’re still waiting for the circular, then we’ll hold a meeting before distributing it to all employees,” he explained. In the future, services that directly interact with the public, including sub-districts, districts, social services, health services, civil registry, public works, fire department, will not implement full WFH. Instead, they will be regulated through personnel division, so that some remain working in the office. “So not all employees will do WFH on Friday, especially for service departments,” he clarified. Regarding supervision, Pemkot Tangerang will involve the Personnel and Human Resources Development Agency (BKPSDM) and the Inspectorate to monitor ASN performance. Additionally, the ASN attendance system during WFH will be conducted digitally using barcodes and location tagging. ASN who violate the rules will still face sanctions according to applicable provisions. “If they don’t report for three consecutive days, there will be a warning. If for a week, there will be further sanctions, usually deduction of allowances,” he said.
