Tangerang City Government Expands Sealing of Illegal Waste Dumps to Tackle Pollution
The Environmental Agency (DLH) of Tangerang City, Banten, has confirmed that the enforcement and sealing of illegal waste disposal sites (TPS) will be expanded across various regions. This decisive step is being taken in response to reports and complaints from residents disturbed by unauthorised waste management activities.
“We have already sealed illegal TPS in the Pinang and Cibodas areas. Next, we will move to the Benda area and other locations,” said the Head of the Tangerang City Environmental Agency, Wawan Fauzi, in Tangerang on Friday (19/6).
Wawan explained that these enforcement actions are part of environmental law enforcement efforts. Unauthorised waste management activities have been deemed to have triggered negative impacts on the surrounding ecosystem.
“Illegal TPS sites are being used as unauthorised processing or collection points, which causes harmful impacts on the environment because the systems used do not comply with existing regulations,” said Wawan.
Integrated Law Enforcement
In its implementation, the Tangerang City Environmental Agency is not acting alone. This enforcement is being carried out in an integrated manner involving various elements, including the Tangerang City Municipal Police (Satpol PP), the Department of Transportation, the Tangerang City Metro Police, and local regional authorities.
In addition to sealing locations, Civil Servant Investigators (PPNS) from the Municipal Police are also conducting data collection, inspections, and gathering statements from parties suspected of being involved in these activities.
“We want to ensure that the handling is comprehensive. Not only closing the locations but also enforcing the rules so that similar activities do not recur in the future,” Wawan emphasised.
This preventive measure is being taken because the existence of unauthorised waste management sites poses a strong potential for serious environmental pollution and disrupts the comfort of local residents.
Public Encouraged to be Proactive
On the other hand, the Tangerang City Environmental Agency is also inviting the public to play an active role in maintaining environmental cleanliness by reporting any illegal waste management activities found in their respective areas.
“Community participation is very important. If you find unauthorised waste management activities, the public can report them to the Environmental Agency or through the official complaint channels and social media of the Tangerang City Government. Every report received will be followed up,” concluded Wawan.
