Tangerang City Education Office assures distance learning is running optimally
Tangerang (ANTARA) - The Education Office (Disdik) of Tangerang City, Banten Province, has assured that teaching and learning activities (KBM) conducted through distance learning (PJJ) amid the spread of volcanic ash from Mount Anak Krakatau remain optimal, as teachers continue to provide guidance.
“The Tangerang City Education Office is asking schools to ensure that teaching and learning activities continue to run well during the implementation of PJJ,” said Head of the Tangerang City Education Office Wahyudi Iskandar in a statement in Tangerang on Monday.
The Tangerang City Government has implemented distance learning for education units from kindergarten/early childhood (TK/PAUD) through primary school (SD) to junior secondary school (SMP), both state and private, in anticipation of the impact of volcanic ash from Mount Anak Krakatau.
The policy is based on circulars issued by the relevant ministry, the Banten Provincial Government, and Tangerang Mayor Sachrudin, prioritising the safety, security, and health of students.
As an initial stage, distance learning will run for three days, from 7 to 9 September 2026. During this period, learning continues using learning-from-home methods in accordance with the readiness of each education unit.
“This PJJ policy is also a form of the government’s caution in protecting students. With learning conducted from home, student activity in the school environment can be temporarily reduced while the volcanic ash conditions remain a concern,” said Wahyudi.
Going forward, the Tangerang City Government will monitor developments on the ground and information from relevant agencies to determine the next steps. Evaluations will take into account environmental conditions, public health, and the development of the volcanic ash spread.
“The public, especially parents and guardians, are urged to follow official information from the Tangerang City Government and the Education Office regarding developments in the implementation of learning. Parents are also expected to accompany their children while they undertake learning activities from home,” he said.
Previously, Tangerang Mayor Sachrudin issued instructions to his officials to provide the latest information as well as swift and accurate services needed by the public in relation to the spread of volcanic ash caused by the activity of Mount Anak Krakatau.
The Tangerang City Government, through its relevant regional apparatus, continues to monitor the situation and coordinate with relevant agencies to ensure that conditions remain safe and under control.
“What is most important is that the public remains calm but vigilant. Follow official information and appeals from the government, and do not easily believe or spread information from unclear sources,” he said.
